Eastern Creek International Raceway March 16/17 2002.

 Qualifying:

John Lyons #88 Ducati 996 SPS, put his new bike on pole. Peter Hinton #3 Ducati 996 ‘Super’ Strada was on pole 5, directly behind his team mate. "It’s nice to be on pole, for the first race of the year." said Lyons, "we’ll see how the race goes".

 

Racing:

Race fans were treated to a torrid set of four races. Lyons crashing after a ferocious dice with Soderland on the Aprilia, in race two. "Mike and I were going right at it, he was on the limit, and I thought he was going to loose it and took evasive action, then I crashed!" mused Lyons. He finished the weekend in 5th. Hinton finished in 4th, overall, by a few points to Soderland.

The upset of the weekend was, current champion Craig McMartin Ducati 996 SPS #1, riding qualifying and the first two races, with no second gear! "We fixed the selector for Sunday, and the results reflected that" smiled the champion rider. McMartin leads the series.
