Bears PRP Race Team
Press Release
After a 2002 season that promised so much, yet ultimately, from
a personal and overall team perspective delivered so little, we made the decision, that,
after the final round of the Formula Xtreme FX Pro Twins series, irrespective of results,
we would not renew our partnership with the Ducati BEARS Race Team for the 2003 season.
Our thanks go to all our sponsors and supporters that made it all
possible. We do believe in the adage "maximising the potential" and that
must ultimately include a reasonable return for a sponsors' investment. It has been
statistically proven that the best return for a sponsor in any form of motorsport is
television coverage. The 2002 Series sponsorship package included substantial
financial support and we sincerely thank them for their commitment.
- For the 2003 season, the Ducati Bears Race Teams' proposed schedule
of events were the NSW & National BEARS Series and had no plans to compete in
the 2003 FX Pro Twins Series.
-
- To be competitive in these two BEARS series, ( total of 9 rounds),
which includes 3 interstate and 2 away meetings, (Wakefield Park), compared to 2003
FX Pro Twins Series total of 5 rounds, which includes only 2 interstate meetings, the
financial commitment involved is almost double, with no added benefit to sponsors of prime
time television coverage.
-
- We wish the new team the best of luck in their endeavours .
-
We have turned our attention to redeveloping the legendary
"giant killer" PRP Husky Supermono, to run in FX Bears with prime time
commercial television coverage, and may also run in selected rounds of the NSW &
National BEARS Series.
We last ran these machines in 1997 (1st & 2nd MAV Supermono Cup,
1st place NSW BEARS). The 2003 specification will include a new chassis (including revised
suspension package), revised camshaft and improved cylinder head efficiency,
improved airbox & induction system, improved gearbox (alternative ratios for all 6
gears), and 3 different engine capacities.
This specification results in a power to weight ratio more than 10%
higher than the Ducati 996 used in the 2002 season. It also results in an overall package
that offers advantages over production based machinery, in braking, cornering and drive
that can also be maximised for each circuit, through careful setup.
These are the machines that were to be used in the 1998 World
Supermono Cup in Europe.
The BEARS PRP race team consists of one rider, Peter Hinton.
The team can, therefore, concentrate its' resources on a proven performer, with the rider
& team having concurrent objectives that are realistic, achievable and
sustainable. The team operates within a framework that has established technical expertise
and experience in developing technical solutions to produce a race winning
motorcycle.
