In 1999, the Ducati 900SS
returned to the 6 Hour Race after more than 20 years absence . "The privilege of
racing the new SS is an awesome responsibility," said team manager Mal Cherlin
"It is a world first."
Ducati
made a historic return to endurance racing with an entry to the Motorcycle Concepts 6 Hour
Endurance Race held at Sydney's Eastern Creek Raceway on Sunday October 24th 1999.
The
BEARS Ducati 6-Hour Team competed in the production class of the 6-Hour aboard a Ducati
900 Supersport. The Team is a combined effort of the Ducati Owners Club of NSW and BEARS
Australia Motorcycle Racing Club. The team raced a Ducati 900 Supersport in the BEARS and
Production bike categories in this prestigious event, and assisted with technical backup
during the preparation for
the event.
Warren
Lee, General Manager for NFI (Ducati Importers), is right behind the efforts of the team
and agrees that the 900SS offers one of the best all-round packages in the race.
"Not
only does the 900SS have historical links with the 6-Hour Endurance events, but it is
ideally suited to any club racer or road riding enthusiast" Mr Lee said.
"Ducati's tradition in the event stems from the mid-seventies through to the
midnineties, with some very notable performances such as that of John Warrian. It is
a credit to the Ducati Supersport model that 20 years later it is still competitive in
this arena."
